Since this is such a controversial issue, I believe that it will be a number of years before much more progress is made in the world of stem cell research. A cure is many years away and it’s unlikely I will live long enough to see it. Being 40 years old, I’m so used to having diabetes that I don’t really mind it. I can’t remember NOT being diabetic.

I would love for there to be a cure for diabetes. I don’t think that there will be a cure for hytertension or hypercholestemia as those are mostly brought about by a person’s environment and health consciousness. Diabetes, however is an endocrine disease for which stem cell reasearch is promising. Let’s hope for the best. I would love to see future generations be able to live free of this life-changing disease.

There has been some promising research using stem cells to CURE diabetes in lab mice. but it is a LONG way from lab mice to human treatments. IF this proves useful in humans, it will be 20-30 YEARS before treatment is available for humans.

High blood pressure and high cholesterol, if not otherwise caused by diabetes, show little promise of being cured by stem cells. High blood pressure is most often caused by some other underlying disease, like diabetes or kidney disease. High Cholesterol is about 75% poor lifestyle choice, and about 25% inherited, neither of which stem cells affect.

It might it’s well worth giving it a try.

I sure hope it does. It would be great to not have to worry about taking insulin every day and dealing with the highs and lows when I am sick or stressed out.

no don’t kid yourself

I don’t know about high blood pressure and high cholesterol, but I do know that in Brazil they have already cured type 1 Diabetics and they have been off insulin for several years (I believe it was around 5 years) with no issues, so if stem cell research is funded here in the US by the government when Obama takes presidency, then we will see a lot of these diseases being cured by stem cell.

Lets hope so. But we will not know until it’s been tried. Thats like asking what will happen in the future, you won’t know till it gets here.
