the best alternative medicine is that of changing your lifestyle.

    If you smoke- quit
If you’re overweight- lose some weight
Cut down on your salt intake (very important)
    Start some light exercise

Changing these factors should be able to get you off some, or all, of your medications.

We don’t know your family history. But I will tell you this: I lost weight, and my bp went down dramatically. My family doctor told me this would happen if I brought my weight under control, and he was correct. I haven’t used a high bp drug in over 2 years.

    Peace

In addition to what the other poster suggested, try meditation in the form of yoga or Tai Chi, as those disciplines teach you to focus inward on yourself, with the results of better health — mental and physical.

You should also be on a very good vitamin regime. Not something that you get from the drug store, but something appropriate for you age, especially if you are peri-menopause or menopausal. Try ProFem Tabs from Pure Essence Labs as these are high potency and very supportive of women’s needs.

You should also consider supplementing vitamin therapy with Vitamin E oil or Flax Seed Oil capsules as this helps with vein health also. You won’t get the right amounts in any multi-vitamin, so this is also necessary on the side.

Lavender Essential Oil is calming to the nerves and blood pressure as it helps one to relax. Purchase a small bottle from Nature’s Alchemy and carry it with you. Apply one drop to your fingertip and rub each temple in small circles and the back of the neck (just one drop will take care of these areas). If you are feeling extra stressed, just open the bottle and take a whiff! :-)

There are many forms of alternative medicine to help you.

It will help to understand some of the causes of high BP, such as kidney problems, the Circulation meridian (Chinese medicine) and toxins in the body, particularly the cells. You should look for treatments that can effectively treat these.

I have read the other answers and they are good. I just wanted to add: Eat raw celery and stop eating sugar.
    Good luck

Regarding BP you should have to ask clearly enough. What ’side-effects’ are? How did you get the confirmation of those ‘effects’ due to BP drugs? Have you explained about ’side-effects’ to the particular Doc who prescribed?
Well, I’m not at all a Doc but a patient Hypertension. I’ll tell you a story, keep it in mind throughout your life:
Have you seen the baskets made of bamboo, where the snake charmers use to keep their snakes? And you know, those snake-full baskets are covered always till they need to bring one or more snakes out. Now take that ‘basket’ as your disease like BP & the ‘cover’ as the drug! Now imagine, there are poisonous snakes inside but so silent! May be they’re sleeping or dead or even ther can’t be any snake. Okay, the basket is uncovered now. Bring your face near the opening of the basket out of curiosity. All of a sudden you might get a SNAP by a cobra!
Think it now; hypertention (Blood Pressure) is that type of notorious disease. Just forget to get the medicine, you’ll get attacked by this snake-type silent killer.

Why don’t you consult a herbalist or doctor of chinese medicine.

I am a medical herbalist and can tell you that you can’t treat hypertension using natural medicines effectively without consulting – I have been treating it for many years and although you have given very little information about your age and history, hypertension is eminently treatable with botanical medicines. Side effects to botanicals are quite rare.

Drug treatment does not solve the problem, as it will return once you stop taking your drugs. It is best to consult a herbalist and get a better diagnosis as to the cause of the problem and have the CAUSE dealt with.

Blood pressure medications are very often overprescribed, and often don’t work as advertised anyway. They also have many varied side-effects.
I strongly suspect many such medications are just fooling the test and doing little if anything for the health of that person.
How high is your BP? What other factors are involved? Best luck.
PS: there is no substitute for losing 20-30 pounds, and that has been proven to extend your life, whereas BP meds have not. You can do it if you want it!

Besides garlic, fish oil, cayenne, apple cider vinegar and hawthorn there are many other natural remedies that you can find in a web search for “high blood pressure” + “natural remedies”.

Each natural remedy helps a bit and you may have to take several of them.

Reducing your salt intake and getting plenty of exercise will also help.

Hypertension is defined as a condition which is characterized by an increase in the blood pressure flowing in the blood vessel. It could be caused by obesity, increasing age, deposition of fats in the blood vessels or hereditary causes. Avocado is very useful in resolving the condition of hypertension.
Avocados are a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure. Adequate intake of potassium can help to guard against circulatory diseases, like high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke.
Avocados contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol. In one study of people with moderately high cholesterol levels, individuals who ate a diet high in avocados showed clear health improvements.
