Good for your Dr. Mine started me on some bronchial meds, my BP went way up, then I purchased some BP lowering drugs that did nothing but waste my money, Reducing my albuterol reduced my BP.

Howard Benavidez

Cigarettes cause constriction of the arteries, hence, the result of stronger pumping action of the heart leading to high blood pressure. Same as it goes if a person is obese. Fat builds up in the arteries causing plague that obstruct the blood flow to and fro the heart causing hypertension. Your doctor is right not to take any medications yet, to observe if your blood pressure can be controlled in natural way, like dieting, and yes, quitting smoking. However, if you started feeling pain, like tightness in the chest (angina pectoris), then, it is recommended for you to take medicines like nitroglycerine SL. I advise you monitor your BP everyday so you have a basis whether you are needed to take medicines or not. Hypertension is a predisposing factor to stroke, if, and only if your BP is already uncontrollable or you have other underlying disease. I also suggest to have an ECG exam. Hope i helped!

Eva Serna

First and foremost you don't want to go on meds for conditions you can control on your own. By going on meds it is really difficult to get off of them, your body doesn't need to counteract the problem and so it doesn't and when you try to go off, you have problems, in your case, your blood pressure would go way up. That is why it hurts to stop using drugs like heroin and cocaine (that obviously is to the extreme) Your doctor is right and is taking the best route possible, a bad doctor would put you on meds right away. HBP at your age needs to be controlled by you, get your body right again. You recently quit smoking, that is good, it will help your HBP in the long run, (right now it's going to raise your blood pressure from the added stress your feeling from doing it) Once you get your body right again, you can loosen up on some of the things it took to get there, but that is awhile ahead of you.

Edward Friday

Your blood pressure is going down and will continue to do so and I would take the doctors advice. Lose weight, diet and exercise, and at your age you should be okay. I've been on BP meds for two years.

your bp is a bit high, but not enough to cause a stroke, if you are anxious its only going to make it worse. relax.
