Billy Rayborn

No such thing as a blood pressure for sure being 144-93.

Blood pressure measurements are "crude things" You are trying to measure the pressure in an artery buried about 1 to 2 inches below muscle in your arm. So lots of questionable measurements are taken even by experts.

You need to buy a machine, take several HUNDRED blood pressure reading at various times of the day. Then average them over 2 weeks or a month's time.

The AVERAGE blood pressure for several reading will be a good measure of blood pressure.

Until you do something like that you have no idea what kind of blood pressure your heart is experiencing. And It is the AVERAGE over a long time that determines the heart's work. So just a measurement now and then means nothing.

But if you get an AVERAGE blood pressure over several hundred readings of 144-93 Its time to get on medication until you figure out how to get it down by either weight loss, exercise or whatever.

A single measurement of 144-93 might be just perfect for blood pressure if you have just climed a set of stairs or gotten upset in a doctor's office during a visit. And maybe you got a like 110-70 in early morning??

Take control of your blood pressure yourself. No Doctor will because it just plain takes too many measurements to find out what it is. Lots of them and average them.

Leticia Hurt

I would take blood pressure log twice a day, for a month or so and take it with you to the doctor's office. If you go without anything, they will tell you to do that and come back. If your pressure is consistently high, the doctor will put you on the drugs for rest of your life. But first they have to determine the cause. Mine was 180/126 for while, and I'm on meds, and I am doing fine. But I do take my BP everyday.

Let's try to stay away from stroke!!

Well, depending on your race and family history. Even depends on what stress have been going on. Make a note of your blood pressure and time of day for maybe a month, take this informaiton to your doctor and let him make the diagnosis.

Grace Riedel

120/80 is where you want to be, so that's a slightly high number.

But, blood pressure can fluctuate depending on the time of day, what you've recently eaten, or even if you're tense, and 144/93 one time may not indicate a problem.

A good first step would be to try and cut down on your salt intake, and test it again in a week or so.

Kristin Durfee

that is a touch on the high side. a systolic BP of 150 is considered mildly hypertensive. I'd suggest decreasing the salt in your diet and seeing your doctor. It may be that your BP isn't an issue now, but it's possible it will continue to climb and become and issue later on.

Jason Polson

That is high/borderline high. Cut the salt/sodium in your diet. Exercise. Check it again in a few weeks. If not see a doctor.
