Scott Wallen

Good exercise techniques will help control your blood pressure. I don't have a clue as to what borderline high is!!!

the doctors all want mine down around 115/65 and it is with meds

I took ACE then ARB for about 10 years and they did nothing to keep mine down or reduce it. I have since started on a calcium channel blocker med that has dropped my blood pressure to the absolute bottom but the doctors just increased the dosage!! What the heck??

You may have more muscle mass than you think. Muscle weighs about twice what fat does and there is no way to reduce the weight from muscle!!!

Most athletes are decreed by the BMI calculators to be massively over weight or grossly obese!! Ignore these charts if you workout on a very regular basis.

Gladys Derr

Exercise will help lower your blood pressure. A common cause of high blood pressure is being overweight, so losing 20 lbs is a great start to getting your blood pressure down. Have you had it checked since your weight loss?

You do not have to be on meds permanently for blood pressure. If you lose weight, and keep exercising, your blood pressure will drop, and your doc could reduce your dosage or take you off of them. Make sure you avoid things high in salt. If you are border-line that will definately aggravate the problem. Even healthy foods such as soup and Lean Cuisines can be packed with sodium, so read the labels on everything. You may also think about adding a little more potassium to your diet (since potassium naturally lowers blood pressure). A banana, green veggies, cataloupe, and potatoes are all good choices.

Faye Denton

Actually, your weight loss should help your high blood pressure. High BP doesn't effect your ability to lose weight and about the meds - it is not correct that you are on them for life. You just don't want to suddenly stop taking them. You have to gradually reduce the dosage - per doctors instructions.

Shuman

Yes, high blood pressure can cause you to retain water which will increase your weight. I heard that as well that once you start them you are pretty much stuck on them for life because if you stop your blood pressure will go back high. Medication is not a cure for high blood pressure it only stabilizes it - so if you stop - you will still have high blood pressure. Have you tried any of the natural remedies for high blood pressure. Reduce your salt intake too.
